2012 Anthology

I have been thinking of cool ideas for the end of year. Something that you can take away with you to remember your 2012 year at Deanwell School. We will be burning onto a CD all the happenings that have gone on, but with that I thought it would be good for you to document your memories in an Anthology poem using "I remember..." writings. With that you can make a CD cover, which we will make in class and a gift box like the video below.  ENJOY!

So, I will have the card, double sided tape, ribbon and card strips and you will have the creativity.

Science Day

What a great day had by all on the 14th November. The sun came out and so did the moon. The solar eclipse was a sight for sore eyes. Lucky none of you looked directly at the sun with your naked eyes. It was great to have the special glasses to see the moon going across the sun. I heard some of you say "It looked like a Pacman"

To finish the science day with water rockets added to the enjoyment. I think the lack of balance in the fins caused the rocket to shoot more horizontal then straight up. It didn't help having the wind we had either. I didn't take many photos but I got this video of the second rocket launch. Enjoy. Feel free to write your scientific reasons as to how the rockets work. You could even put in some diagrams. Just photograph your diagrams then save them on the computer to be uploaded onto our blog.

My Sisters Birthday

Today the 3rd of October 2012. It was my sister's Birthday. She got a bike she did'nt  know how to ride the bike that much. I had to help her get on the bike.

Cricket with Aneesh

Today at 9:30a.m c4 went outside to learn cricket. C4 lined up outside and walked to a man called Aneesh. He asked us a few question to know if we played cricket. Destiny said to him not many every time he asked a question and we all started to laugh. When he finished asking questions he told us that we were gonna play snow tag. How you play is someone has a tennis ball and everyone else spreads out in the square. The person who has the ball has to try and get the players that are running around. When he touches the person with the ball they go and get a ball. When there is one player left they win. When we finished snow tag he sat us down and said that we were gonna play cricket. Our teacher, Mr T, put us into two teams. One was in the batting team and the other team was the fielders. When we finshed the game Aneesh sat us down and then he gave us a goody bag that was so fun THANKS ANEESH!!!!   

Earthquake Drill 26th September

      Drop,Cover and Hold.

 The class was working. Then the siren went off. Everyone DROPPED everyone COVERED and everyone HELD.

The siren went on for 2 minutes. To me it felt like 5 minutes.

That drill reminded me of the earthquake in christchurch.

Deanwell Idol Contestent From Our Class

This is one of our Deanwell Idol contestents just 5 minutes before the real thing. He wasn't scared but I really think he was inside. Doesn't he look like Justin Bieber? He was singing Talking To The Moon by Bruno Mars.

  

"wow we can make this work we can prove that we are the one and only class that can do it deanwell idol 20 12. now where wore i, i am Talya and these are my friends i go to deanwell school i am in C4.our class are doing an 50's performance for this we researched for what they wore those days then we went into a big closet and looked at some costumes.some chose to get their costumes from their some had them at home and some went and bought them. i beat you are saying what i did? i bought my costume from jay jays go down and look at my costume.  this is me and my partner.

Rock around the clock tonight!!

Last night on the 6th of Thurday there was a show called Deanwell Idol at our school.

Our class C4 did a rock'n'roll dance.We got these amazing costumes that we wore on the night.the girls had to partner up with a boy to dance with for the rock'n'roll dance.These are some of the pictures we took before the
night.We even got to meet Elvis Presley!!!

The big night

The person who won the idol 2012 was Trinty Terry. Everybody was amazed that she won.WOW it was so cool.

This is me and some of my friends dressed in our 50s and 60s costumes.

When it was the night everyone loved it well alot of us loved the FANTASTIC DEANWELL IDOL.

The boys weren't as excited as the girls did.

On the night all of the students that were wearing glowsticks really stood out.

Teaching the class how to dance Deanwell Idol Style

In C 4 this term the students have been learning about Rock'n'Roll and fashion. The students decided that they wanted to do a dance for Deanwell Idol and the posts that the students will be making are from their account of the event. At first all the boys didn't want to dance with the girls, but in the end everyne enjoyed it, especially Broden and Levii.

Practice day.

The students were involved in the choreography. This helped them to really enjoy it and feel like it was their dance rather than the teacher telling them what to do.

Learning your 2 times tables

I found this on the internet over the weekend. It fits nicely with what we were doing with our multiplication on Thursday last week. Good practice. There is so much other good videos to watch. Just type in "learning your times tables " on youtube and see what you can find. Learning the 9 times table was a good one too.

Mr T's Ski trip

ON the second Monday of the holidays I took my family to Turoa Ski field with nother family. The weather was superb. I could tell that it was going to be a great day.We took all our ski gear.  Josh and I decided this was the day to try out skiing. I hadn't done it since I was 15 years old so I didn't know what to expect.

When we got to the mountain I couldn't believe how clear the skies were and how vibrant everything looked. We got our skis and began the training. My friend is an expert skier and he taught us everything he knew. We learnt if you wanted to stop you had to make a pizza with your skis. This became very useful as the day progressessed as we tried harder slopes. In the end we managed to go up the second chairlift and ski most of the way down. I only fell over three times. It was an awesome experience. I think I may become a ski junky.

Hamilton Zoo

Yesterday I went to the Hamilton Zoo. there were animals in different shapes and sizes. There were big ones little ones and even medium ones . The first animal was a well was actually a Reptile house I saw a dragon lizard a blue tongue lizard a tree frog and some other things. Then I went to see the rhinoceroses one of the rinhos horns were huge it wacked the other rinho and the other rinho was almost crying then we went to see the next animal it was water bucks octritches zebras and a bison/buffulo

In the holidays Georgia came over to my house (Shirlee).We went to Gallagher pools and I Shirlee went to Georgia's house and we made chocolate fudge.
We went to the dairy and were going to buy some lollies when the lady that owns the shop made a big argument about us not buying something and we said oh my gosh and then the lady said what? and we walked out of the shop.

The 50's C4 dance idea

I have been doing some thinking and researching and thought that this song could be another good one to do as well as rock around the clock. I can imagine all the boys dressed up in prison gear and the girls doncing too. Could have some bars that some of you can be dancing behind. Couple of you blowing on a saxaphone and a trombone. Who should we pick to be Elvis lip singing it?

Anyway I will leave it with you to think about.

nothing's happening today

Today it's really quite at my house. My mum's sleeping so is my auntie, my dad's gone to work at the nursery, bro's playing on the Ipad and I got the cold over the weekends. So that means I usually can't talk that much. I'm really bored today. It's really cold, nothing's happening that's so exciting today.

Trip to Placemakers - Clarence Street

Finally it was the day of our trip to Placemakers to talk to the experts about our box construction. Little did we know what surprises were in store for us. When we arrived at the doors Bob, Cliff and Val welcomed us and then preceeded to give each of us a Chiefs/ Placemakers Beanie. Imagine my surprise when this happened. Already we were thinking that this was going to be a great experience.

After this we went inside and some of the students presented thier research and designs to Bob and Cliff. They looked over our plans and then advised us that Placemakers would be donating the wood required as well as the PVA glue, screws, sealer and a paint brush. We were all very grateful. I told Bob that we would make sure that our appreciation would be written on the side of the box when it was completed.

Some of the students had thought that it would be a good idea to sing them a song we like to sing at school .So we finished our visit with Count on me.

After we had finished singing we got a huge clap from all the staff as they had heard the singing and came to where it was happening. It was all rather exciting. Trinity gave a thank you speech, as we always do, and the we walked back to the cars. Then it hit me. How were we going to get the wood back to school? The pieces of wood would not fit in the van. Bob said "No trouble, we will drop it off at school." So Cliff hopped in his ute and went off to Deanwell school. The kids gave them all a big clap for that. I was especially happy because I had forgotten our camera but Val let us borrow their company one and just said to drop it off after I finish school.  So we are very thank\ful for that too, otherwise we wouldn't have any pictures to show.

 So we have our wood....

 We have the screws and glue...

and now we have to build the computer box. Thanks Placemakers. You are our heroes!

Box construction Day on Grandparents day

What a fantastic day we all had on Friday. Thanks to all those Parents and Grandparents that helped C4 with their prototype box construction. The students were able to put their learning into a practical experience and it was awesome to see the ideas from both students and other adults to help make the experience a success.

In week nine the students will be presenting to the school assembly all that they have done so far as well as their next steps, so feel free to come to our school assembly on Monday the 19th of June at 12pm. We will also be teaching the school a new song.

Get the cursor ready for this game, you are going to need it. All you need to do is click on objects and the robot does the rest. When your cursor turns into a pair of waddling feet, just move your curser in that direction and watch the robot move. You also have the ability to change height to reach other objects.

You can't die in Machinarium, so feel free to explore as much as you like. If the robot can't do something he will shake his head. Sometimes he will give you a clue in the form of a thought bubble if you try to do something that is not yet possible.

Student Led Conferences

Hi class,

Mr T here. This year we are going to get you guys to share your learning with your whanau. So instead of having parent interviews we are going to have "Student Led Conferences." You may be wanting to know what that is all about. Well in a nutshell, it means that you as students will be sharing your learning with your families rather than me as your teacher. You will be taking a booklet home to share with your family so they have some ideas what this is all about and what to expect. Here is a video from another school who have tried it and have interviewed the students to get their feedback on it. Enjoy.
