ANZACS

What's it all about? What significance does this day have to me? What does it actually mean? These might be some questions you have asked yourself or others and yet you still have not got an answer. Remember what we talked about in class about researching and asking good questions? Now it is your turn to put that into practice. Here is a small video from my families trip to Ypres in Belgium. What feelings do you think about as you watch it? what might it be about?

Stop Motion Animation

As part of our learning this term we are going to develop some strategies about keeping fit and healthy and being responsible for ourselves in this area. I thought of an interesting way to share with others what we think being fit and healthy is all about and what it might look like using stop motion animation. Here is a video to get us started. From this video we will plan, design and make our own videos in groups of four to show to others and hopefully encourage them to get fit.

What are your immediate reactions from watching this video? Make a comment about your feelings and why you feel that way. Talk to 3 people – Record what they are passionate about and why. Also list some ideas of things you like doing. What are you passionate about? If you are finding this hard then record that e.g. – I am not sure of what to write because……

How do we get to know people?

This is an old Telecom add. It can teach us thing or two about how we get on with people and the ways we communicate. Have a look. How does this relate to any of your experiences you have had getting to know other people?

Google Docs

This is a great way where we can share and co write a piece of work or even work together on some thinking maps. Can't wait until I get back to show you how. I am still learning it too.

Global action

Check out this web site. http://schools.surfaidinternational.org/ What's it about? Just click around on the different tabs and see what you can find out. Ask your teacher first. Post a comment about what you have found out or questions you might have. Do you think it is a good place to start our journey to make a difference and to be a global citizen?

What do you think this quote means by William James

"Human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitude of mind. If you change your mind, you can change your life."

Mr T's first funny to you. Here is something that I love to do and yes that is me on the stage.
Make sure your shoes are never too tight that it stops you from dancing. Try to work out what that means.

Enjoy the video. I don't mind if you laugh at me, but think seriously about the things I have said in this post so that you are able to write a thoughtful comment.

Marvin

I have a bit of time to refine my skills with some of the programs I had been using last year. One of them is called Marvin. Some of you may have used it already. I am interested in seeing what you are capable of doing with it. Maybe teach me a thing or two.

See if you can make up a Marvin presentation related to some aspect of work that you have been learning about. It might be to do with maths or maybe swimming. Whatever it is, have a go. I would also like to see how you link it into being responsible NZers. Well here is my presentation. Have a look at it and write some comments about the program Marvin and how it can be a useful tool to help you with your learning.

Taking responsibility for yourself

I just finished watching the movie Rocky Balboa. A story about a boxer who comes back to fight again. Not a very good movie, but it had this speech from a Dad to his son which I found quite interesting. Maybe have a look at it and write back what you think it has to do about being responsible. I think it has a good message for all of us. Let me know what you think.

Let me introduce myself.

Hi guys

This is your other teacher, Mr T, writing from home. I am currently lying on my bed with my leg up. The operation was completed on Tuesday and I was back home on Wednesday.

I have set up this blog so you can write your stories, use it as a journal writing exercise or just to say hello and ask me how it's going. I will occasionally write posts about what I am up to and some thoughts about teaching and learning that you may want to comment on. I might also write some things about how you can get on better with each other and be responsible for your actions, so watch this space.
Have a great term. Hope to hear from you. All you have to do to leave a message is click on the comment at the end of a post, write what you are thinking and leave your name. That way I know who has wrote what.

As the term progresses you might want some of your work put on the blog. Just get Mrs Wakelin to e-mail it to me and I will do my best to put it on.

See ya

Mr T
